Tue, Dec. 1st, 2009, 10:51 pm No accent
I don't quite believe this. I think I have some residual Texan left in me, Ive never even been to the Midwest. The difference I use in the words "pin" and "pen" come from necessity and not from upbringing because I use both rather frequently and must make a distinction. I think there is much more to be considered in analyzing an accent. However it is a fun little quiz. | What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. | | The West | | | Boston | | | North Central | | | The Inland North | | | The South | | | Philadelphia | | | The Northeast | | What American accent do you have? One of my best ideas ever. For those of us living alone, finding a nice hot meal that is easy to prepare, good for you, cheap and doesn't require you to make a whole pot is a dauntless task, but this idea is magic. Make spaghetti sauce. A whole batch of it, put in your favorite additions like extra onions, beef, olives, mushrooms, zucchini or whatever else you like. Boil up enough noodles for just yourself and eat. YUMMY that was good, but the magic part comes next. Take the leftover spaghetti sauce and put it in a square flat container and freeze it. When it is solid take it out, pop it out of said container, put it on a cutting board, and get a big sharp knife. Cut it into portion sized squares. take those squares and stick them in some freezer container, like a gallon sized ziploc. Store in freezer. NOW whenever you want spaghetti, all you have to do is cook is few noodles, and pop a sauce square out of the freezer and heat it up. Waalaah! good home cooking and no worrying about leftovers or having to open a whole can of olives and waste the rest.
Tue, Jun. 23rd, 2009, 05:38 pm Phone died
ok, my phone died. Best contact me through e-mail. Yesterday I was having trouble with the buttons switching themselves and dialing themselves, but it was still fairly operational. I could receive phone calls and access my contacts list in a round about way. Tomorrow I will try to get a new phone. SOOOOOO glad I saved all my phone numbers in a google document!
I have been frequenting a web page on fiber arts for a few years. The woman who made it is my hero, there is so much useful information there. http://www.stringpage.com/A local SCA member just offered me a piece of her land to plant plants on, she's a cool person. They are the same person! I get to plant on my hero's land. GAH!
Mon, Apr. 6th, 2009, 11:11 am Staying in
I'm cloistering myself up here in PA for the rest of April. I'm sick of driving around so much and cant really afford to do it. If you want to see me at all this month, you come see me. No, Really, you are invited, but I'm not driving more than an hour to anywhere. Tue, Mar. 3rd, 2009, 10:31 am That's a first
This entire season, we in PA have been getting snow, like every day. Not necessarily slammed all the time, but it snows regularly, and now down in the south (DC) you guys are slammed with snow, and it is sunny here. What a world!
I did not get the Xanthan gum in time to make my gluten free pumpkin bread, but the recipie I used said it worked ok without it. I tried it and it turned out well even without the xanthan gum. 2/3 cup shortening 1 & 1/3 cup sugar 2 eggs 1 cup pumpkin pulp 1/3 cup water or milk 1 & 2/3 cup GF free flour 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp cloves 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 baking powder a scant tsp salt 1/3 nuts (optional) 1/3 cup raisins (optional) cream the shortening and sugar together. mix in the wet ingredients mix the dry ingredients together separately then add to wet cook at 350 for an hour in a well greased bread pan

I'm making pumpkin bread to share with a friend with a wheat allergy. I got the Bob's Red Mill GF all purpose flour. It says that I should use Xanthan gum, but I'd have to buy a pound of it and it is $10. I'm too poor to go buying all of that for just one recipie. Do you think it will turn out ok without it?
well damn, the nation wants a welfare state. wonder if I'll get to keep my IRA or 401k or will welfare be forced down my throat? and what actually constitutes "can afford" health insurance? Hope Obama doesn't make himself an America bashing globetrotter.

It snowed today. It didn't really stick much, but the flakes were big and bad. I'm going to put my long johns on and not take them off until spring. I heard someone comment that this is awful late for our first snow of the season. I think I'm going to cry.
In political news, Sarah Palin spoke on campus yesterday Bill Clinton was on campus today speaking and then on Friday Al Gore is giving a speech on green energy (not specifically for the presidential race but undoubtedly related). It is weird to be getting this much attention and having this many famous people on campus in such a short period of time. As Lewis Black said (live on Sunday) "Pennsylvania is a swing state, that means you get to be harassed by EVERYBODY" Fri, Sep. 19th, 2008, 08:08 pm Rat Treat!
I just made the most fun rat treats EVAR! after researching types of wood that are safe to give rats as chew toys, I made a marvelous discovery. I have several 1" round tree limb cookies, and they have a couple random holes drilled in them. Since I couldn't string the cookies together like I wanted, I decided to fill the small holes with my rattie's favorite yogurt treats. She can't keep her teeth off of them! YEA! Good wood: Maple, oak, balsa, apple Bad wood: walnut, cherry, aspen, pine
Thu, Sep. 4th, 2008, 04:22 am Rattie
I got a rat! My roomate's friend had to move and get rid of her rat. My townhouse allows small caged rodents! YEA! So I took in the poor little dear. She is a beige hooded rad, i.e. mostly white with a tan head and a bit of a stripe down her back. I've been doing a lot of reading about rat care. I've wanted one for years. Her name is Ellissadell, but she doesn't recognize it and I think it is too long/complicated, so I'm going to change it. She is a sweetheart but a little timid and resists being picked up, but doesn't bite. She lives alone and that is sad since they are very social creatures. I'm looking for a rattie playmate for her. I called the SPCA (they occsionally get rats in), but they didn't have any and suspected me of being a snake owner. Petco doesn't have anything but hampsters and a few ferrets. I got her off her alfalfa rabbitfood diet and onto some actual ratfood, b/c rats can't digest alfalfa and aren't vegetarians like rabbits. She likes it a lot better, but she is still lonely. I am looking for another female or two or possibly a neutered male. She lives in a very roomy bunny hutch, so there is plenty space for ratty roomates. names I'm considering: Dorothy, Isabel, Lizzy, Eliza, Hazel, Lucy, Audrey, Millie.....I'm bad at this.
There is so much dumb in the deli that sometimes it sickens me. we have rather dull knives in the deli. Normally I would say this was because of such frequent use, or management being to stingy to provide us with good knives which are more expensive, but I recently found out it is because of Dumb. In trying to open the tough package of a ham. I used a large knife that has about 1 inch of sharpness left along its foot length. I got chastised, by the lady who originally trained me, telling me to use the useless little semi serrated midget plastic ripper, (which only works about 1 time out of 10) instead of the almost sharp knife that works pretty well because "Sharp knives cut off little fingers. Dull ones are safer" GAH!!! Every bock on knives and anyone who knows them very much at all, agrees that Sharp knives are safer. They do what you want, so you don't fight with it and slip and injure yourself horribly, plus clean cuts made by sharp knives are easier to sew up and heal better! The same person also reads the scale that says 1.16 lbs as "One pound and 16 ounces" no there are 16 oz in a pound. .06 lbs. is roughly an oz, and .12 lbs is 2 oz. 1 pound and 16 oz. would actually be 2 pounds! Someone needs to teach these people about decimal places because one customer got really upset when I read 1.10 lbs as "One point one pounds" "No! that is one point ten pounds!" she yelled back. When the scale read 1.01 lbs after I removed some meat, she corrected me saying "Now THAT reads one point one" my co-workers agreed with her. FACE PALM! well I put in my two weeks today. They really want me to stay. HA!
Mon, May. 12th, 2008, 04:04 pm Boy Grooming
I cut James' hair. It was the first time I did it by myself. The two times before my mom helped. but it looks good. i.e. back to the way it was, and he no longer looks sloppy. I'm proud of myself. I was nervous about it. I'm so glad that he trusts me. I found two shirts at Ross that I thought he might both like and look good in, when I took him down there to proof them, he liked neither, but picked a dark red long-sleeved one that I wouldn't have guessed. I also picked up two blouses to go with some simple work skirts that had no partners. Now I no longer feel like a stewardess wearing them. YEA for professional dress!
Tue, Apr. 22nd, 2008, 03:37 am Normal People
Why are they so boring? I drove 2 freshmen boys up to PA as I was visiting James this weekend. It got me a nearly free tank of gas, but if people would actually talk to me I'd be happy to do it for much less. I managed to get their year and majors out of them (Computer science and Kinesology), but talking about anything else was like pulling teeth. So are you part of any clubs? "no." Umm, do you have any pets? "We had a dog." Any questions about the pets were met with crickets chirping. I tried to launch into horrible gen ed classes and beer stories, but nothing stirred them. We sat mostly silent in the car for more than 3 hours, with the crappy radio on. Don't normal peopl DO anything? I thought most people had some kind of interest in something. Again, this isn't the first time, when I was a JR in college I drove a girl to Manassas, and she said not a word to me the whole time, despite me trying to make polite conversation. WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE! I HATE NORMAL PEOPLE THEY ARE SOOOOO BORING!

I'm generally independent, but there are times that having a keeper would be beneficial. I didn't eat today sustaining myself only on soda and a couple cookies. Around 6:00 pm while walking to my car, my body gave up, and I had to take pains to prevent myself from fainting. I wanted to go home to eat in order to save money, but decided driving would be a bad idea and went and grabbed a burger at the nearest fast food place. Much thanks to Haru who paid me back in cash, else I wouldn't have had any money or means of payment on me at the time. also this morning I had a most wonderful dream about a prince in a white castle who fell in love with me, gave me diamonds, showed me breathtaking sights, made mad pasionate love to me and could dance. *swoon* So I'm girly sometimes.... Got a problem with that?
Wed, Mar. 5th, 2008, 11:41 pm Accepted!
I recieved a piece of mail today. Penn State has offered me a place in their Comunications Sciences and Disorders graduate program. This means a move in July and changing my residency ASAP. I still have not heard from JMU, but expect that I will be accepted there too. I think the better education is at Penn State, though it will cost me more money, hassle and 9 more underegraduate credit hours than I would have to take at JMU. Now I know what is going to happen, I am relieved, but immediatly following the excitement, the fear set in.
This is a story about a guy wiping dirt off the walls of a tunnel to make art. It is a bunch of skulls, and very neat. Too bad the cops had to put an end to it. but to do that they actually had to clean up their city so he couldn't draw in the dirt anymore. (which is kinda sad - no more art) http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2007/10/dirty-trick-cau.htmlMake art where you find it.
Wed, Feb. 6th, 2008, 05:16 pm BREAD
I've got the urge to bake. I have yeast, I could make some nice yeast bread. Cookies would be fun, or a coffeecake of some sort. My only problem is... I have no flour. I have about everything else for it, but no flour. I also might need more eggs. I even have chopped walnuts and some coconut. so it wouldn't have to be plain. but I have very minimal funds right now. I need a baking buddy. Not just for the supplying of flour, but b/c it is neat to cook with people, or at least have someone to eat it. on that subject. I have been cooking. Pretty healthy stuff I might add, and I've been offering it to about anyone who walks through the door, but no one will eat any of my stuff. I know it isn't bad tasting, it is all the same stuff I've made countless other times that many people have enjoyed. I think people don't want to impose, but I wish they would. Also what I would like is to have a dinner night. We cook dinner and then watch a Hitchcock movie (I picked up a set at wal-mart for $5) with a glass of wine. Am I getting old or something? is this too refined for the college crowd around here? Ya know I really thought they liked to eat.
